Objectives

The objective of this project is the research and development of a proprietary methodology for biodegradation testing of organic textile materials (cotton, wool, etc.) The study provides the possibility of establishing standardized protocols and standards in order to ensure the organic recyclability of these materials, so that the textile customer can know if the fabrics can enter into agrocomposting processes in order to improve their circularity.
Description
The BIODETEXTIL project aims to transform the Valencian textile sector by conducting tests on textile materials for biodegradation and composting. It seeks to pioneer sustainable materials, offering a competitive edge in the market. While the industry focuses on minimizing textile material impact, true sustainability requires materials that compost into organic waste when discarded. Presently, these materials face landfilling or incineration, harming the environment. The project's tests will establish labeling for compostable textile products, elevating end-of-life fabric to organic substrate or agricultural compost, reducing the industry's environmental footprint. This innovation promises a regional competitive advantage with more sustainable products. The resulting compost, enriched with biodegraded textile fibers, could reduce water consumption in water-scarce areas, potentially supporting the local agricultural sector. Our company aims to lead this effort, becoming Spain's sole entity engaged in these pioneering tests.
