BIODETEXTIL

Discover how research into testing methods contributes to designing textiles that are more sustainable and ready for the circular economy

Main objective

The goal of this project is to research and develop a proprietary methodology for analyzing the biodegradation of organic textile materials (cotton, wool, etc.). The study offers the opportunity to establish standardized protocols and benchmarks to ensure the organic recyclability of these materials, enabling textile clients to determine whether the fabrics can undergo agricultural composting processes to enhance their circularity.

Description and results:

Get to Know Us

The BIODETEXTIL project aims to transform the Valencian textile sector by conducting biodegradation and composting tests on textile materials. It seeks to pioneer sustainable materials, thereby offering a competitive market advantage. While the industry focuses on minimizing the impact of textile materials, true sustainability requires materials that break down into organic waste upon disposal. Currently, such materials often end up in landfills or are incinerated, harming the environment. The project’s testing will establish a labeling system for compostable textile products, transforming end-of-life fabrics into organic substrate or agricultural compost and thus reducing the industry's environmental footprint. This innovation promises a regional competitive advantage through more sustainable products. The resulting compost—enriched with biodegraded textile fibers—could reduce water consumption in water-scarce areas, potentially supporting the local agricultural sector. Our company aims to spearhead this effort, becoming the only entity in Spain dedicated to these pioneering tests.
